Specialist footwear · Brentwood, Essex

Shoes that fit your feet, not the average foot

OAK & SOLE is a specialist footwear store on Brentwood High Street. We measure properly, stock widths most shops skip, and only sell you a pair we would happily wear ourselves.

  • Measured fitting, every customer
  • Widths from narrow to extra wide
  • Repairs and resoling in-house

Independent, family-run and accountable — you speak to the person who fitted you.

What we do

Footwear services built around how you actually walk

Most foot pain starts with a shoe that was never right in the first place. Everything below exists to fix that — before it becomes a problem you pay a specialist to solve.

Expert fitting & foot measuring

We measure both feet — they are rarely the same — and check width, arch and heel depth. You leave in a size that is genuinely yours, not the one you have assumed since school.

Who we serve

Sectors that depend on footwear holding up

Some people wear shoes. Others stand in them for eleven hours. We stock and advise differently depending on which of those you are.

Kitchen team working a busy service on hard tiled floors

Hospitality & catering

Long shifts on hard floors and wet surfaces. We prioritise slip resistance, cushioning and shoes that still look presentable front-of-house.

Healthcare & care homes

Washable, supportive and quiet on ward floors. Comfort over a twelve-hour rota matters more than anything on the label.

Logistics & warehousing

High step-counts on concrete. We focus on shock absorption and durable outsoles.

Older adults & mobility

Wide fittings, easy fastenings and stable soles, with room for swelling and orthotics.

Black leather safety work boots worn with high-visibility site trousers

Construction & trades

Protective toe caps, midsole protection and boots that survive a winter on site — fitted properly so nobody loosens the laces by lunchtime.

Growing children & families

Growth room measured, not guessed. We tell you honestly when a pair still has months left in it — and when it genuinely does not.

How we work

Four steps, no pressure, no guesswork

You will always know what we are doing, why we are recommending it, and what it costs before anything is boxed up.

01

Measure

Both feet measured for length, width and arch height, standing and seated. It takes ten minutes and is always free.

02

Shortlist

We narrow the wall to two or three genuine options based on your measurements and how you will wear them. No upselling.

03

Trial & adjust

Walk in them properly in store. We adjust lacing, add or remove insoles, and stretch where a shoe is otherwise right.

04

Aftercare

Care advice on the day, a free fit check after two weeks, and repairs handled in-house when the time comes.

In their words

What customers say after a proper fitting

Sample customer feedback, shown as an illustration of the service we aim to deliver.

First time anyone has measured both my feet. Turns out I had been a size too small for years — the difference after a week of walking was ridiculous.
Hannah Reid Ward Manager, Essex
They ran a sizing day at our depot and handled the whole reorder cycle afterwards. It took a recurring headache off my desk entirely.
Daniel Okafor Operations Supervisor, Logistics Provider
I brought in boots I assumed were finished. They were resoled, restitched and back on my feet within the week for a fraction of a new pair.

About OAK & SOLE

An independent store built on one stubborn belief

A shoe should be fitted, not guessed.

OAK & SOLE LTD was created by Mr Paul Clint to bring measured, unhurried footwear fitting back to Brentwood High Street — the way good shoe shops used to work, with the range and standards customers expect today.

We are deliberately small. The person who measures your feet is the person who recommends the shoe, orders your size and handles the repair two years later. Nothing gets lost between departments, because there aren't any.

Our mission

To make correctly fitted, long-lasting footwear the normal choice — not a specialist luxury.

Our vision

To be the store Essex sends people to when nothing else has fitted properly.

  • Fitting knowledge firstTrained fitters who understand width, volume and gait — not just shelf stock.
  • Quality over volumeA curated range chosen for construction and repairability, not turnover.
  • Straight answersIf we do not have the right shoe for your foot, we will tell you so.

Questions

Things customers ask before they visit

Do I need an appointment for a fitting?

No — walk-ins are welcome at 105 High Street. That said, booking ahead means a fitter is reserved for you, which is worth doing on Saturdays or if you have a complex fit, orthotics or several people to measure.

Is the foot measuring really free?

Yes, with no obligation to buy. We would rather measure you honestly and send you away with your correct size than sell you something that will not work. Plenty of people come back later — that is fine by us.

What if you do not stock my size or width?

We order in wherever a suitable model exists, and we will tell you the realistic lead time up front. If nothing in our range suits your foot, we will say so and point you toward what will — even if that means you buy elsewhere.

Can you work with my orthotics or insoles?

Bring them with you. We fit around them, favouring removable footbeds and extra depth so the orthotic sits correctly. We are footwear fitters rather than clinicians, so we work alongside your practitioner's advice, not instead of it.

How long do repairs take, and what do they cost?

Most heel and sole work is turned around within a few working days. You get a firm quote before we start, and if a repair is not economically worth doing we will tell you rather than take the job.

Do you supply footwear for teams and organisations?

Yes. We run sizing days at your premises, agree a shortlist that meets your requirements, then handle repeat ordering and invoicing on account. Email enquiries@oakandsole.co.uk with your headcount and we will come back with a plan.
